Anonymous asked:

I’m having trouble dealing with the recent revelation that my mom is a massive hypocrite who’s done the same things she shamed me for growing up, and may have also done things she claims to be against, both religiously and politically. I feel horrible. What do I do now that I know all of these things but can’t point them out to her because it won’t make a difference? And why do I feel like my whole world is collapsing?

yourbigsisnissi answered:

A part of growing up is realizing your parents are human. And many of them have made mistakes in the past that they don’t want us to repeat. That’s why they want us to not do what they did. I would encourage you to see your mom as someone trying her best. She may be a hypocrite, but it’s likely that she wants you to be better than her, which is something completely in your control. You don’t have to repeat her mistakes
